FCX Systems, Inc., was founded in February 1987 to design and manufacture solid-state frequency converters. A team of five individuals with over sixty years of combined electrical engineering experience in the power conversion formed the company. Their expertise enabled FCX to design and produce the world’s largest solid-state converter (rated at 312 KVA) only a few months after opening. This unit and a second 312 KVA converter (which was produced six months later) were paralleled together to produce the world’s largest solid-state power source in existence - with a surge capacity of over 2800 amps.

FCX Fixed Frequency Converters are used to supply aircraft ground power in the commercial, military, and corporate airline markets. They are also used for power supplies in avionics shops, shipyards, dry docks, with radars, missiles, high-speed welders, lasers, computers, and high-speed electric powered trains (for rail power as well as signaling). There are numerous other frequency conversion applications that take place throughout many industries that are perfect applications for these solid-state converters.

Currently, FCX has units in the field operating various systems throughout the world... Ranging from the New York City Subway, to the Space Station, to the Hong Kong International Airport, throughout the United States, and in over 70 countries on all 7 continents.

In addition to the fixed frequency converters, we also supply line drop compensators (LDCs), gate boxes, and distribution panels in support of 400Hz central aircraft systems. Line drop compensators are rated from 20 KVA through 180 KVA, distribution panels are rated to 1,500 KVA, and gate boxes are rated through 180 KVA. Input and output cables with various plug/heads, 28 volt DC supplies, hoists, terminal boxes, and hose and cable retrievers, and hose baskets are also available as accessory items.

Our approach to the market is one of flexibility -- sell the customer what he needs for his particular application and do not require him to modify his application to match a particular product.  FCX currently offers 400 HZ, 50 HZ, 60 HZ, 25 HZ and various other solid-state frequency converters with ratings from 7.5 KVA to 2,500 KVA in a single unit design (output voltages range from 115 VAC to 2400 VAC for application environments ranging from fixed indoor locations to portable or free standing outdoor rated units). Paralleled converters are available in any size and quantity. The units are designed employing the master/slave control concept. Converters can be manufactured to handle 300% of rated capacity without tripping off line. The 400 HZ solid-state frequency converters supplied by FCX are rated for wide body Boeing, Airbus and McDonnell Douglas jets and are designed to accommodate No-Break-Power-Transfer (NBPT) operations.

In addition to Frequency Converters, FCX also designs and manufactures a complete line of Preconditioned Air Units to cool and heat aircraft. These units, referred to as GSAC (Ground Support Air Conditioning), are designed and built in Bridge Mounted, Mobile, or Free Standing variations.

FCX manufactures PC Air units from 20 Ton to 150 Ton capacity. The units are designed with the most efficient technologies available, such as Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) to control the air flow. In addition, each unit is sized and designed for specific ambient conditions and aircraft fleet.

Ship Shore: FCX designs and manufactures all aspects of large KVA Frequency Conversion Systems. Each Solid State converter is configured in a vertical, stand alone NEMA 12 rated cabinet (Stainless steel, NEMA 4X, enclosures are available). These converters offer the most advanced Solid State technology, which enables these high performance power units to convert any conventional electrical power to either 60 Hz or 50 Hz power for your dock application. This allows service to all ships at facilities with shore power, regardless of electrical design of the ship. In today’s “service” driven world, FCX is capable of providing the best in shore power for all ships worldwide.
