Why FCX?

PC Air VFDUse of VFD

FCX vs PC Air

We use VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives) to soft start our PC Air Unit motors and produce the exact motor speeds needed for optimal performance. The soft start on the blower motor eliminates high inrush current. We also use a VFD to control the blower motors on all units for increased power savings that you can’t find anywhere else. The blower runs at maximum speed for large aircraft but reduces airflow when a smaller aircraft is being serviced - or when the unit is in the heating mode. The reduction in speed from the Wide Body mode to the Narrow Body mode is 60%.

VFD vs Dampers*

A unit using an outlet damper to lower airflow would use 3 TIMES the power of a unit using VFD! Expect a savings of 21.12 – 6.72 = 14.4 kW for every hour at Narrow Body mode! And the savings would be even more in heating mode.

*Based on a specific study of one unit for the US Navy. Results may vary.
